It has already been more than a year into my PhD journey, and one of the highlights so far has been my secondment at the Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Testing (UNDT) Lab at the University of Bristol, UK. From the very beginning, I was impressed by the vibrant atmosphere of the lab. It was a true melting pot of expertise and cultures — with PhD students and postdocs from across the world, all working side by side. The layout of the office encouraged daily interactions, and with supervisors always nearby, it was easy to exchange ideas and get feedback. It felt like a space designed for creativity and collaboration. On the research side, these two months were incredibly productive. I explored several innovative methods, but the most exciting challenge for me was working on a machine learning–based approach (NARX) for compensating temperature effects on NCWI data. This was an excellent hands-on experience with machine learning, and applying it directly to my own experimen...

Embracing Italia: My First Taste of Secondment! Ciao from the enchanting streets of Milano! With my PhD journey just around the corner, I've landed in Italy, ready to dive headfirst into an exciting new chapter. For the next two months, I'll be at Isamgeo, with my fellow researchers, Olga Nesterova, and Jitendra Kumar Sharma. Isamgeo is a consulting firm that provides expert advice, data analysis and interpretation, and numerical modelling in the fields of geomechanics and geophysics for the oil & gas industry. They have considerable expertise in all aspects regarding the physics of porous media, and extensive experience in oil and gas engineering. My mission here? To harness the wealth of expertise around me and sharpen my signal and noise processing skills. With Olga and Jitendra by my side, I'm gearing up for a journey of collaboration, discovery, and growth.
My First Event as a PhD Researcher! I can hardly believe it—less than a month into my PhD journey, and the adventure has already begun! Just weeks into my journey, I dove into the world of research at USES2's Training Week No.1, held at CEA, Paris Saclay. From January 15th to 19th, I soaked up insightful presentations and connected with experts in my field. It was a whirlwind of knowledge and inspiration! But beyond the realm of academia, what truly made this experience memorable was the opportunity to connect with a diverse array of individuals who share my passion for research. From esteemed project partners to fellow doctoral candidates, a chance to exchange ideas, share experiences, and forge lifelong friendships!
